A signature Cantina MIR experience
Tradizione Contemporanea: a tasting of amphora, oak and steel in Locorotondo
📍 Locorotondo, Itria Valley (Bari) · Puglia
The experience at a glance
- A journey through three ageing techniques: amphora, French oak and steel
- Native grapes: Verdeca, Bianco d’Alessano and Minutolo for the macerated whites; Primitivo, Negroamaro and Susumaniello for the red crus
- In the historic 1860 winery carved into the limestone, in the centre of Locorotondo
The story of the experience
Tradizione Contemporanea is Cantina MIR’s most complete tasting: a guided journey comparing the three ageing methods — amphora, French oak barrel and stainless steel — to reveal how each wine’s character is born.
In the underground cellar, entirely carved into the limestone rock in 1860, you’ll taste macerated whites from native grapes — Verdeca, Bianco d’Alessano and Minutolo — and red crus from Primitivo, Negroamaro and Susumaniello, in a constant balance between Apulian tradition and contemporary experimentation.
Every glass comes with food creations designed especially for our wines: artisanal focaccia, local cured meats and cheeses, preserves, taralli and friselle, olives and traditional condiments with grape must and extra virgin olive oil.
The tasting
- 3 bottled wines
- 2 wines still ageing, drawn straight from amphora and tonneaux
The pairings
- Artisanal focaccia
- Fresh and aged local cheeses and cured meats
- Local preserves, taralli and friselle
- Olives and traditional local condiments
- Grape must and extra virgin olive oil
The ideal experience for anyone who wants to truly understand how an artisanal wine is born: from the grape to the ageing technique, all the way to the perfect pairing in the glass.
