Our first question was:
‘Who do we want to be, and what do we want to become?’
That’s what sparked the idea for Mir Valle d’Itria.

To us, viticulture is an art. We want our project to herald a new understanding of progress, which necessarily goes hand in hand with wellbeing, in the broadest sense of the word. Our wines aresalubri‘wholesome’. They’re allowed to rest. They’re in no hurry, and are proud of what they are; the same goes for our vines and indeed our region, as we work to preserve its nature and culture.
CANTINA MIR - Itria Valley
Mir was born from an insight
MIR is the brainchild of Guglielmo Zitohe founder and leader of the project.
One of his key objectives was to set up a family business rooted in the local area, which would allow him to be personally involved in every step of the production process. Now, the micro-winery MIR is based around a period building, dated 1860, in Locorotondo. Its upper level, furnished by the artist Bernardo Palazzo in a style that reflects the company’s values, houses the winery shop and tasting sessions; down in the underground cellar is where MIR Valle D’Itria wines are aged in clay amphorae and oak casks. These limited-edition wines possess unique characteristics, and have been designed to improve in quality over time.
Then there’s the very foundation of the vineyard: a constellation of small plots of land, specifically chosen for each blend. Guglielmo Zito manages them personally, in synergy with the technical expertise of Simone Santoro. The two draw constantly on the age-old knowhow of the Valle d’Itria’s community of winegrowers.

His growing involvement with traditional viticulture and winemaking was consolidated when he created ZITO, the premium label of the Vineka brand, which heralded a definitive commitment to the art and craft of winemaking.
Guglielmo then met Simone Santoro, a promising young Italian oenologist, and found they shared an interest in wine culture and cultivation as the fulcrum of the special features and preservation of the Murgia plateau. This encounter proved to be the driving force behind the MIR Valle d’Itria project. Their ambitious vision is based on technical expertise, creativity and uncompromising dedication to viticulture in the most authentic way possible: eco-sustainable production methods, preservation of native grape varieties, personal and specific care applied from grape to glass, and the pursuit of authenticity and a premium-quality end product.
